The gardens I love most showcase nature's simple, rustic beauty in an elegant display.
Ruth Bracken took our chaotic pot ensemble, a length of inhospitable soil, and a brick terraced feature with an identity crisis and transformed it into a refreshing space of lush ferns and grasses in varied shades. She also managed, in that small space, to find room for a dry creek bed, a simple fountain, and a brick patio where my husband can continue to brew beer while I keep him company, nearby in a hammock.
Ruth achieved our goals for low maintenance with a minimalist collection of large, stand-alone urns planted with Japanese maples. Believe it or not, all of that comes off looking tastefully uncrowded and enchantingly simple, as though nature herself put it together.
